The Shire of Coolgardie is getting ready for the upcoming aquatic season, with preseason maintenance and repairs underway at both the Coolgardie and Kambalda Aquatic Facilities. Our teams are working hard to make sure the facilities are safe, ready, and meet all required standards before they open to the community.

Despite the not-so-great weather, the Kambalda community came together at the Kambalda Community Recreation Facility for a wonderful R U OK? Day sausage sizzle.

What a fantastic morning it was at the Kambalda Community Recreation Facility, as we hosted its very first Community Morning Tea! The new initiative is all about bringing the community together every second Monday for a cuppa, a chat, a delicious morning tea and, most importantly, some great company.

The Shire of Coolgardie is pleased to announce the appointment of Ms. Sabine Taylor as its new Chief Executive Officer. Council endorsed the selection at a Special Council Meeting held on Tuesday, 15 September following a diligent recruitment process conducted by the Chief Executive Officer Selection Panel. The panel consisted of elected members and an independent panel member, consistent with the CEO Recruitment Model Standards and the Shire's CEO recruitment framework.

The Shire of Coolgardie is encouraging residents to take action for their pets' health and wellbeing, with two free Community Pet Action Days planned for Kambalda and Coolgardie this October. Designed to support responsible pet ownership and help reduce the number of stray and unidentified animals in our communities, the events will provide a range of free services and information for local dog and cat owners.

What started as a small after-school activity with six local children has quickly become one of Coolgardie’s most popular Tuesday afternoon events. This week, 25 people turned up for Nerf Wars at the Coolgardie Community Recreation Centre — a huge increase from the six who attended when the program first began.

The Shire of Coolgardie has celebrated the successful delivery of its inaugural Outback Under the Stars event, with residents in Kambalda enjoying a memorable evening of stargazing and astronomy on Friday, 21st of August, while the planned Coolgardie event was unfortunately cancelled due to rain.

Approximately 25 community members gathered at the Coolgardie Recreation Centre on Thursday, 20 August, for a Daffodil Day Morning Tea in support of Cancer Council, raising just over $700 for the important cause.

The Shire of Coolgardie is saddened by the passing of former Shire President and long-serving Councillor, Billie Ingham. Billie was a passionate advocate for Kambalda and its people. After moving to Kambalda in 1971, she dedicated much of her life to strengthening the community she loved, raising her family there and becoming a tireless volunteer, community leader and champion for local residents.

Telstra will begin upgrading the Coolgardie mobile base station from Tuesday 4 August 2026, with works expected to continue for approximately seven days.

The Shire of Coolgardie is excited to launch its brand-new Seniors Club creating more opportunities for local residents aged 60 years and over to stay active, healthy and connected within the community.

National Lamington Day is celebrated each year on 21 July and honours the iconic Australian sponge cake coated in chocolate and coconut. The much-loved sweet treat is believed to have been named after Lord Lamington, Governor of Queensland from 1896 to 1901, and has remained a popular feature at community gatherings, fundraisers and morning teas for generations.
