Filming in our Shire 

The Shire of Coolgardie welcomes film, television, and digital media productions to our region. With its rich goldfields history, striking outback landscapes, heritage buildings and unique townsites, the Shire offers a diverse range of filming locations—from the historic streets of Coolgardie to the rugged beauty of Kambalda and surrounding bush land.

Whether you're producing a feature film, documentary, television series, commercial, or tourism campaign, we encourage you to apply for a filming permit before commencing your project within the Shire of Coolgardie.  

PLEASE NOTE: Permission to visit and/or film in Aboriginal communities or travel through Aboriginal land is granted through the Aboriginal Lands Trust.

Permit Requirements

Before filming with the Shire of Coolgardie, please ensure you meet the following requirements: 

  • Allow at least 10 business days for your filming permit to be assessed.
  • Provide a current Certificate of Currency for Public Liability Insurance (a min of $20 million Public Liability Insurance).
  • Accept responsibility for any damage caused to Shire property, infrastructure, or public assets and cover the cost of repairs or reinstatement.
  • Indemnify the Shire of Coolgardie against any claims, losses, damages, liabilities, or costs arising from the filming activities.
  • Acknowledge the Shire of Coolgardie in production credits or promotional material where practicable.
  • Grant the Shire permission to use approved photographs and footage for marketing, tourism, promotional, and community engagement purposes, with appropriate credit where practicable.
  • Minimise disruption by ensuring filming does not unreasonably obstruct public access, roads, or traffic.
  • Obtain all necessary licences, permits, and approvals before filming commences.
  • Comply with all applicable Work Health and Safety (WHS) legislation throughout the filming activities.
  • Leave the site clean and safe, removing all equipment, waste, and temporary infrastructure upon completion.
  • Comply with any additional conditions imposed by the Shire, which reserves the right to amend or revoke a permit where necessary to protect public safety, the environment, or Shire operations.
