Request to keep more than 2 dogs on a property
Did you know - before you can keep more than two (2) dogs on a property, you must first inform the Shire of Coolgardie before going through an application process? This is so we can give you the addresses of any
adjoining properties, as you must have their signed consent to submit with your application form. If a property is
a vacant block, no signature is required.
Keep in mind though, that even if neighbours object the Shire could still grant consent.
Once you have submitted your application, the Shire of Coolgardie will take into account a number of factors in the assessment process. Things such as registration & microchipping compliancy and if there is any history of the dogs being a nuisance will be considered, and an Authorised Officer will inspect the yard to determine whether it is suitable to house more than 2 dogs.
There is a non-refundable application fee of $143.00 (as per the Shire's current fees & charges) to be paid when submitting this application; the application
will not be considered until payment is made.
Below are the steps an applicant should follow when applying for permission to have more than 2 dogs:
- Contact the Shire of Coolgardie Ranger Services for an application form, including a list of the properties you are required to gain consent from.
- Visit the addresses given to you and notify the residents of your intentions. If they do not object, their name, signature and phone number is required.
- Submit the completed application form to the Shire of Coolgardie – along with the application fee – and arrange a time for the Ranger to come and inspect the yard. By submitting your application, you are
guaranteeing that all dogs will always be properly contained in the yard.
Should you be successful in your application, you are only permitted to keep the animals that have been approved by the Shire. It is not permitted to replace animals that pass away or are rehoused without going
through the application process again.
The Shire of Coolgardie will be within its rights to revoke the approval if sufficient evidence is produced that theextra animals are creating a nuisance in the area.
