Local Government Extraordinary Postal Election - Election Notice

The Shire of Coolgardie is holding an extraordinary election by postal vote on Thursday, 25 June 2026 to fill a vacancy in the office of Councillor as listed below:

District 1 Councillor
MITCHELL, Rose
MARILLIER, Ivor

Election Packages will be sent to all electors on the local government electoral roll where there is an election in their electorate.

You may hand deliver your postal voting papers, or obtain a replacement package (if the package is not received, or should any papers be missing), during business hours before election day from the following
locations:

  • Coolgardie Recreation Centre, 69 Sylvester Street, COOLGARDIE
  • Shire of Coolgardie Kambalda Administration Building (Shire Office), Irish Mulga Drive, KAMBALDA WEST
  • Post your vote early. Completed postal voting packages must reach the Returning Officer by 6pm on election dayThursday, 25 June 2026.

You may hand deliver your postal voting papers to an electoral officer, or obtain a replacement package (if the package is not received, or should any papers be missing), between the times listed below on election day at the following locations:

Chief Polling Place:
Kambalda Recreation Centre, Barnes Drive, KAMBALDA WEST 8am to 6pm

Other Polling Place:
Coolgardie Recreation Centre, 69 Sylvester Street, COOLGARDIE 8am - 4pm
The count of votes will commence after 6pm at the Kambalda Recreation Centre, Barnes Drive, KAMBALDA WEST.

Electronic Counting Place:
Western Australian Electoral Commission head office at Level 2, 66 St Georges Terrace, Perth WA 6000 may be used as an electronic counting place.

Information for Voters

The Shire has appointed the Western Australian Electoral Commission to conduct its elections by postal vote. Postal voting enables electors to submit their vote before election day. The counting of votes commences at 6 pm on election day and once the counting of votes has been finalised the result will be announced by the Returning Officer.

The 2026 LG Extraordinary Election is being held on Thursday, 25 June 2026.

There are many reasons why people stand for Council including the sense of satisfaction from serving the community and the chance to play an important role in the changes occurring within the community. As an Elected Member for the Shire of Coolgardie, there is a special and unique responsibility that is much broader than the defined local government boundary.

Potential candidates should be aware of their obligations concerning disclosure of electoral donations when standing for Council. Candidates and donors are required to disclose any electoral related gifts promised or received within the six months prior to polling day. 

Potential Candidates are required to complete a candidate induction prior to nomination, further information is available on the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries website.

In accordance with the Local Government Act 1995 the Shire of Coolgardie Code of Conduct for Council Members, Committee Members and Candidates 2026 applies to all candidates in the election. Candidates must abide by the code of conduct during the election and afterwards, should they be elected as a Council member. Candidates that breach the code of conduct during their election campaign may be subject to a complaint under that code which will be dealt with in accordance with the Local Government Act 1995 and Regulations.

The Shire maintains an Electoral Gift Register that details certain information of electoral gift declarations made by candidates and donors during local government elections. The register is available online below and can also be viewed at the Shire of Coolgardie Administration Offices.
