Boot-Scootin' NAIDOC Hoedown kicks off school holidays!

The school holidays got off to a 'yee-haw' start with our very first NAIDOC Celebration Hoedown, bringing together local families for an evening packed with fun and dancing.

Preparations began on Thursday as Heather and Stephen from the YMCA transformed the Coolgardie Recreation Centre into a vibrant country and western wonderland, complete with themed decorations that set the perfect country atmosphere for the big event.

When the doors opened at 6:00 pm on Friday evening, there was no shortage of excitement. Children and families were already lined up outside, eager to get the party started, and they certainly didn't disappoint!

With 70 in attendance, the dance floor came alive as everyone joined in a fantastic mix of games, musical statues, line dancing, and even learned the two-step.

We were also joined by the Teach, Learn, Grow organisation who finished off their week in Coolgardie by busting some moves with the kids.

After dancing the night away, everyone enjoyed a delicious dinner of roast beef and chicken gravy rolls with soft drinks. Coolgardie Community Recreation Centre staff, Sheree and Kellie were joined by Dana from Evolution Mining to serve the hungry crowd, with the meals generously sponsored by Evolution Mining.

The evening wrapped up with a group photo and a massive thanks to the YMCA and Evolution Mining for helping make this inaugural NAIDOC Celebration Hoedown such a memorable success.

A huge thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to such a fantastic event. It was a wonderful way to celebrate NAIDOC Week, bring the community together, and kick off the school holidays in true country style.

We have received lots of positive feedback from families that attended.
