The Shire of Coolgardie advises that Councillor Corey Matthews has resigned from his position on Council, effective immediately, for personal reasons.
Councillor Matthews has requested that his privacy be respected at this time.
The Shire thanks Cr. Matthews for his dedicated service to the community since being elected in 2023. During his time on Council, he contributed to local decision-making and supported initiatives that benefit residents, businesses and visitors across the Shire.
Shire President Paul Wilcox acknowledged Cr. Matthews’ contribution and service.
“On behalf of Council, I would like to thank Corey for his commitment and contribution to the Shire of Coolgardie since his election. Serving as a Councillor is an important role in our community, and we appreciate the time and effort he has given. He has also helped guide the Shire through a period of significant change and uncertainty, and he deserves recognition for his contributions towards the Shire’s financial recovery efforts to date.
We respect Corey’s decision to step down and ask that his privacy is acknowledged during this time. We wish him all the best for the future.”
The Shire will now take steps in accordance with the Local Government Act to fill the vacant position on Council.
