Children, families and seniors across the Shire of Coolgardie embraced a creative school holiday program, with a range of artistic, educational and recreational activities providing opportunities to learn new skills, stay active and connect with others.
Throughout the holidays, community members enjoyed everything from arts and crafts and outdoor creative workshops to science experiments, STEM activities, pickleball and community exhibitions. The diverse program catered to a wide range of ages and interests, ensuring there was something for everyone to enjoy.
Creative activities proved particularly popular, with participants exploring ceramics, decorative art, sun catchers and sun dyeing techniques. These hands-on sessions encouraged imagination and self-expression while bringing people together in a relaxed and welcoming environment.

Young people also had the opportunity to become scientists and engineers for the day through a series of interactive learning experiences. Science experiments sparked curiosity and excitement, while STEM workshops introduced children to practical problem-solving and technology concepts through engaging, hands-on activities.
For older residents, social sporting opportunities such as pickleball provided a chance to stay active, connect with friends and enjoy some friendly competition. Community members were also able to view and vote on entries in the Shire's annual Showcase Our Shire Photography Competition.
One of the most rewarding outcomes of the holiday program was the number of new faces who participated in activities for the first time. Seeing residents of all ages come through the doors, try something new and build connections with others highlights the important role community recreation facilities play in supporting wellbeing and fostering a strong sense of community.
The school holiday program was made possible through the support of dedicated facilitators, volunteers and community organisations who generously shared their time, knowledge and enthusiasm. Their contribution helped create meaningful experiences that may not otherwise be readily available in regional communities.
The success of this year's program demonstrates the value of providing accessible, inclusive opportunities that encourage residents to connect, learn and participate close to home.
The Shire of Coolgardie thanks everyone who attended, supported and contributed to the school holiday program. As students return to the classroom, we wish them all the best for the term ahead and look forward to delivering more exciting community programs and activities in the months to come.
