The Shire is pleased to share that significant improvement works along Nepean Road are now complete, delivering a smoother, safer and more sustainable driving experience for the community.
Finalised on Friday, 26 June, the project covered approximately 5 kilometres of road from Lady Loch Road heading south and was completed over two days. While some minor traffic delays were experienced during completion, the short timeframe ensured disruption was kept to a minimum.
The $450,000 project represents a strong partnership between the Shire and the State Government, made possible through the Regional Road Group Program.
Funding breakdown:
- State Government: approximately $300,000
- Shire contribution: approximately $150,000
This section of Nepean Road had become significantly worn, with potholes and deteriorating edges impacting both safety and comfort for road users. Through targeted patching and resealing works, the Shire has restored the road surface and protected the underlying structure.
Importantly, this proactive maintenance approach is expected to extend the life of the road for many years. Without timely resealing, the road would have required full reconstruction—an option estimated to cost five to ten times more.
By undertaking these works now, the Shire is continuing its commitment to smart infrastructure investment—delivering better roads while carefully managing public funds. Planning is already underway to extend resealing works further south along Nepean Road, ensuring continued improvements across the network.
The project also highlights the Shire’s focus on sustainability, with the use of an innovative bitumen product known as S5R. This material incorporates 5% recycled rubber, much of which comes from used tyres.
The Shire thanks the community for their patience during the short construction period and looks forward to delivering more improvements across the region.
