What started as a small after-school activity with six local children has quickly become one of Coolgardie’s most popular Tuesday afternoon events.
This week, 25 people turned up for Nerf Wars at the Coolgardie Community Recreation Centre — a huge increase from the six who attended when the program first began.
The program's growing popularity has even attracted participants from outside Coolgardie, highlighting the demand for positive and engaging recreational activities for young people in the community.
The success of Nerf Wars has now led to an exciting partnership with the YMCA, who have jumped on board to help host the weekly sessions.
The YMCA bring along plenty of single-shot Nerf guns to help keep the games fair, as well as snacks, drinks and music, creating a fun and welcoming atmosphere for everyone.
Participants can enjoy a variety of activities including target practice, games, mock clay-target shooting line-ups and plenty of free play.
Coolgardie Place Manager Sheree Forward said “The sessions are proving to be about much more than just Nerf guns wars They are giving children a chance to get active, make friends, build confidence and, most importantly, have fun together in a safe community environment”
And it’s not just the kids who are encouraged to get involved. Mums and dads are welcome to join the action too.
With numbers continuing to grow, Nerf Wars is proving that sometimes a simple idea can make a big difference to a community.
Nerf Wars is on every Tuesday from 3pm at the Coolgardie Recreation Centre.
