On Tuesday, 21 July 2026, the Shire of Coolgardie hosted a delightful Lamington Day Morning Tea at the Kambalda Community Recreation Facility, with a wonderful turnout from community members both new and long-time residents.
Guests enjoyed delicious lamingtons, a warm cuppa, and plenty of friendly conversation, creating a welcoming atmosphere. The event was a fantastic opportunity for people to catch up with old friends, meet new faces, and celebrate one of Australia's favourite treats.
National Lamington Day is celebrated each year on 21 July and honours the iconic Australian sponge cake coated in chocolate and coconut. The much-loved sweet treat is believed to have been named after Lord Lamington, Governor of Queensland from 1896 to 1901, and has remained a popular feature at community gatherings, fundraisers and morning teas for generations.
Thank you to everyone who came along and helped make the morning such a great success. We look forward to seeing you at our next community event!
