WALGA, together with the Department of Local Government, Industry Regulation and Safety (LGIRS) and the WA Electoral Commission, will be hosting an Election Candidate Information webinar ahead of the opening of nominations for the 2025 Local Government Elections.

There was a buzz of excitement at the Kambalda Community Recreation Facility on Tuesday 5 August, as Westgold Resources Limited hosted “A Cuppa with the Melbourne Cup” — a special event celebrating the town’s proud gold mining connection to one of Australia's most iconic sporting trophies.

On Sunday 3 August, Cr Rathbone attended the 50th year celebration of the St John Vianney Church in Kambalda West on Sunday morning. 

It was tinsel, tunes, and toe-tapping fun today Thursday 31, July 2025 as local seniors celebrated a festive “Christmas in July”. The event, held at The Kambalda Community Recreation Facility was filled with cheer, laughter, and movement as participants donned their best Christmas-themed attire and danced their way into the morning.

On Wednesday, July 10th, families were invited to the Kambalda Recreation Centre to celebrate National Parents Day with a fun afternoon of creative activities.

The Shire of Coolgardie Council officially adopted its 2025–26 Annual Budget at its Ordinary Council Meeting held on 29 July 2025. This budget marks a step forward in the Shire’s financial recovery following months of collaboration between Councillors, staff, contractors and the Acting Chief Executive Officer.

On Friday, 11 July 2025, Centrecare hosted a vibrant NAIDOC Arts and Craft event at the Coolgardie Community Recreation Centre. From 12pm to 3pm, local children and youth came together to celebrate Aboriginal culture, creativity, and community.

Some practical and welcome works were recently completed in both Coolgardie and Kambalda, thanks to the efforts of the local Waste crew.

The Coolgardie Recreation Centre was buzzing with creativity Tuesday 24 June as families, children, and craft lovers came together for a fun-filled Foil Art Craft.

Essential runway maintenance was completed at Kambalda airport from 20th to 22nd June with Shire staff and Versatile Contracting laying 800 tonnes of gravel to re-sheet the centre of the runway.

At its Ordinary Council Meeting held on Tuesday, 24 June 2025 at the Kambalda Community Recreation Facility, the Shire of Coolgardie Council endorsed a revised differential rating strategy for the 2025/26 financial year, including the introduction of two new Unimproved Value (UV) mining categories—Prospecting and Exploration.

Further to the Minister for Local Government’s refusal of the Shire of Coolgardie’s differential rating and subsequent comments in the media, the Shire would like to provide the following response. Shire of Coolgardie Council has previously acknowledged and accepted responsibility for the current situation, and deeply apologises to its community.

The Shire of Coolgardie wishes to advise stakeholders that it has received formal notification from the Director General of the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries (DLGSCI), Lanie Chopping, that the Shire of Coolgardie’s application for an increased differential rate for the mining sector has been refused.

This International Doughnut Day, a delicious combination of sugary treats and heartfelt generosity came together in the most wonderful way. The Coolgardie Rec Centre wrapped up a fantastic series of cooking sessions, bringing locals together for a mix of savory and sweet creations. With just a small $2 donation, participants had the chance to get hands-on in the kitchen and learn new recipes in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere.

A big congratulations to Teresita (Tessie) on 15 years service with the Shire of Coolgardie. Tessie, a cleaner, always brings a smile to her work and is a valued member of the team. Laughter, popcorn, and school holiday fun filled the Coolgardie Community Recreation Centre on Tuesday 15th of April as Centrecare hosted a special Movie Afternoon for local children and teens.

In a heartfelt and meaningful gathering, the Shire of Coolgardie hosted its Blessing of the Roads Ceremony at Coolgardie Park on Wednesday the 16th of April, bringing the community together to reflect, remember, and promote safer roads for all.
