The Shire of Coolgardie advises that long‑serving Elected Member, Tracey Rathbone has tendered her resignation, effective Tuesday 10 March 2026.
Her decision follows a period of personal reflection regarding her role, commitments, and ongoing contributions to the community.
In her resignation, she expressed strong confidence in the current Council and Shire staff to continue progressing the essential outcomes set by the Minister, as well as to further strengthen trust, and professionalism within the organisation.
Ms Rathbone has indicated she will not be making further public comment beyond what is contained in her formal resignation letter.
Shire President, Paul Wilcox stated, “Tracey’s commitment to the Shire of Coolgardie as a Councillor spans 14 years and for that we could not be more grateful.
Her experience and her compassion for the community have always shone through via her actions not only on Council but through her various volunteer roles.
Her knowledge of matters affecting the Shire of Coolgardie and valued contributions to Council discussions will be sorely missed by all of us and we wish Tracey all the best.”
As her most recent election to Council occurred more than twelve months ago, backfill provisions from the recent Ordinary Council Election in October 2025 do not apply.
Should the Shire be advised that a replacement Councillor is required, an Extraordinary Election will be held in accordance with statutory requirements.
Until further advice is received, the Council will continue to operate with its six remaining elected members, ensuring continuity of governance and decision‑making for the community.
