The Shire of Coolgardie welcomed around over 30 community members, transport workers, and local stakeholders to the newly upgraded Coolgardie Truck Stop on Thursday 26 February 2026, gathering for a ‘Snag & Chinwag’ breakfast event.
Attendees included representatives from Main Roads Traffic Management, WAPOL officers from Coolgardie and Kambalda, Shire Councillors, Shire staff, local trucking companies, and residents.
Shire staff and Councillors spent the morning engaging with drivers throughout the site and handing out free coffee vouchers for the Vibe service station.
Shire President Paul Wilcox, addressed the crowd, highlighting the importance of the Coolgardie Truck Stop as a safe, accessible facility supporting long‑distance drivers.
Mr Wilcox stated, “The event was a practical way for us to meet people where they are – at the Coolgardie Truck Stop. It gave us the chance to speak directly with drivers, locals and service partners about what’s working and what needs attention. Events like this help us build community connection and make sure the upgraded Truck Stop continues to meet community and industry needs.”
Set along the Great Eastern Highway, the Coolgardie Truck Stop is an important rest and refuelling point for long‑haul drivers travelling between Perth and the Eastern States. Its strategic location, accessible 24/7 and equipped with toilets, showers and BBQ facilities, makes it a vital part of the region’s transport network.
Recent upgrades—including resurfacing works and improved line markings—have further enhanced the site. These updates ensure the facility remains safe, accessible, and comfortable for all who use it.
As Coolgardie continues to grow and evolve, the Shire remains committed to supporting local drivers, freight operators, and visitors — ensuring the region stays connected.
