Kambalda's Mixed Touch Rugby Team Rises to the Occasion!

Published on Thursday, 29 February 2024 at 9:50:05 AM

Kambalda's sporting scene just got a whole lot more exciting with the rise of SOC COOL1, a touch rugby team made up of local kids aged 13 to 15 .

Under the expert guidance of Head Coach, Casual Leisure & Recreation Officer, Ra Te Rangi and Assistant Coach/Player, 15 year old, Joseph Sinton, this spirited squad has been rewriting the playbook and winning hearts left and right.

Our mixed team boasts our top try scorers: Jett Carman, Tawhiri Rapihana, Brooklyn Gemmell, and Toa Pratley. But let's not overlook the invaluable contributions of the rest of our team, including Hemi Wilton, Jordan Jury, Emmanuel Jury, Joseph Sinton, Herangi Te Hira-Morgan, Pippa Schultz, Jamie Schroder, Ella Dowdle, Kyra Sinton, and Bailey, whose support and teamwork have helped elevate our try scorers to new heights.

From November to March, rain or shine, SOC COOL1 was out on the fields at the West Oval or at the Kambalda Community Recreation Facility, perfecting their moves every Monday evening from 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm and every Wednesday afternoon from 3:15 pm to 4:30 pm, gearing up for their Saturday showdowns in Kalgoorlie. This team was unstoppable, always ready to take on whatever challenge came their way. And let's not forget their recent poolside training session in February - who says practice can't make a splash? 💦🏉

However, it hasn't been smooth sailing all the time. Some Saturdays, when the temperature soared over 42 degrees, the scorching heat forced cancellations of their games, much to the team's disappointment. ☀️🔥

But SOC COOL1 isn't just about wins and losses - they're all about community and camaraderie. Touch rugby isn't just a game; it's a way to bring people together, promote fitness, and build lifelong friendships. And with SOC COOL1, everyone's invited to join in on the fun!

It's been a team effort from parent helpers and the Shire of Coolgardie to gather the team, coach them, provide transport to games as well as uniforms which helped keep the costs as low as possible for the participants.

But why should you join SOC COOL1 for our next season? Let's dive in:

  • Boosted Cardio and Stamina 🏃‍♂️💨:
    • Feel your heart race, and your lungs expand with a workout that's as exhilarating as it is effective.
  • 🏃‍♂️ Fitness Fun:
    • Regular training sessions keep the team active and healthy, promoting physical fitness and well-being for all.
  • Sharper Reflexes and Lightning Reactions ⚡🧠:
    • Hone your instincts, and dazzle with moves that'd leave even a ninja in awe.
  • Team Bonding and Community Spirit 🤝🎉:
    • Forge friendships that go beyond the field, creating a tapestry of camaraderie that strengthens the community.
  • Stress Relief and Endorphin Rush 🌿☮️:
    • Bid farewell to worries and embrace the endorphin-fueled euphoria that follows each game.
  • Mental Agility and Tactical Prowess 🧠🎯:
    • Stay sharp, think fast, and strategize for the win, as you navigate the twists and turns of the game.
  • Skill Development:
    • Touch rugby hones agility, coordination, and strategic thinking, empowering players with valuable life skills both on and off the field.
  • 🌈 Inclusivity:
    • With a mixed team, Touch Rugby promotes inclusivity and diversity, celebrating the talents of all players regardless of gender or background.

As the touch rugby season draws to a close in March, SOC COOL1 is gearing up for their final game on Saturday, March 2nd. And they're calling on the entire community to come out and show their support!

So grab your jerseys, paint your faces, and let's show our SOC COOL1 pride as we cheer on our hometown heroes! Go SOC COOL1! 🏉🎉👏
