The Shire of Coolgardie has commenced its response to Stage 2 of the State Government’s COVID-19 roadmap to recovery. This includes the reopening of the Kambalda Community Recreation Facility and Library this Thursday 21 May from 8.30am.

Shire staff have worked tirelessly over the past two weeks to prepare a COVID-19 Safety Plan to ensure the facility will opens with all required safety protocols in place.

Unfortunately, gymnasium facilities, skate parks and playgrounds remain closed for the time being, with announcements regarding these expected from the WA Premier in mid-June. The Coolgardie Recreation Centre and gym will also remain closed until late June 2020 for repairs due to storm damage.

As of Thursday 21 May, the Kambalda Community Recreation Facility will re-open to the public with the following preventative measures in place:

  • 20 patrons maximum at one time in the facility which will be monitored by Shire staff
  • Upon entry/exit to the recreation centre, visitors will be requested to sanitise their hands at a clearly marked station
  • All visitors will be required to sign in at the visitor register for contact tracing purposes
  • Computer workstations have been redesigned to ensure physical distancing measures are applied
  • All equipment will be cleaned following any program/activity
  • Screens have been installed at the reception area to protect the health and safety of our customer service staff

The Shire of Coolgardie is calling on the community to act responsibly and safely when using community facilities. This includes:

  • Maintaining 1.5m social distancing and good hand hygiene
  • Staying home when sick or unwell
  • Following guidelines & protocols put in place at the facilities
  • Being patient with our staff as this is a new way of operating for them too

“We must continue to work together to ensure the health and wellbeing of each other. We’re excited to welcome the community back to our facilities, but please remember to follow the health guidelines and all other protocols being asked of you.” – Shire President, Malcolm Cullen
