This school holidays, local student Lillian Kent was offered the role of providing holiday leave coverage at the Coolgardie Resource Centre where she would gain experience in the front counter service and administration.

Lillian jumped at the opportunity recognising the value in having administration experience. Her first day was spent learning her way around the computer, responding to emails, answering the phone, and greeting all the people coming into the Recreation Center. After working for just a few days, she was able to gain many new skills, including professionalism when responding to emails, phone calls etc. She was also able to get involved with talking to the community and locals that stopped by.

Lillian said " being a 16yr old, starting an administration job I was expecting it all to be based around the computer but my opinion on administration quickly changed as I’ve been able to help plan and be involved in all the different programs the Coolgardie Resource Centre run, I’ve met many new people and I’ve had some good laughs in the office with different staff members. This experience was truly helpful, I may even go into working in administration once I finish school. The knowledge and skills I have learned during this short period of time has been invaluable and I feel more prepared to take on challenges in the working environment in the future"
