April was a busy and positive month for the Shire of Coolgardie, with a range of activities bringing locals together.
The month began with a Blessing of the Roads, followed by the start of the Easter school holidays. During the first week, a number of drop-in sessions gave families a chance to spend time at the centre in a relaxed way.
In the second week, the Goldfields STEM Program gave kids the chance to get hands-on with science and technology. Evolution Mining supported the session and provided a BBQ lunch for participants.
We also welcomed Centrecare for a “Kids in the Kitchen” session, where children learnt basic cooking skills. A 3v3 basketball event, run in partnership with BEGA and the YMCA, was another highlight, with Evolution Mining again stepping in to provide a BBQ.
Other activities throughout the month included:
- Nerf Gun Wars - a hit with young people
- Bunnings workshops - offering simple, hands-on projects
- Community Morning Teas, - with both regulars and new faces attending
- Seniors Gentle Gym - showing great participation each week
- Bootscooting sessions - keeping seniors active and social
- Music Pingo - bringing people together for a fun, music-based activity
- A growing Plant Swap - where locals share plants and gardening tips suited to our local conditions
The month ended with the community coming together at dawn on ANZAC Day, with a wreath laid by the Shire.
Overall, April showed how Shire facilities continue to provide a space for people to connect, learn new things, and spend time together.
