On Sunday 3 August, Cr Rathbone attended the 50th year celebration of the St John Vianney Church in Kambalda West on Sunday morning.
The Kambalda Parish was established in 1970 with the St John Vianney (the Patron of Parish Priests) Catholic Church, built in 1975 with Father Tim Coglan being the residing Priest.
The Vicar General, Father Vincent Glynn travelled from Perth for the occasion, and was accompanied by Father Thai and Father Errol at the alter. 160 people came from across the Goldfields and afar, filling the humble church for Sunday Mass and a celebration afterwards.
Long term resident Kay Miller was acknowledged as an initial Parish member with her daughter Lisa having been one of the first alter girls of the church.
Mr Robert Hicks - Chairman of the Goldfields Parish Pastoral Council, stated that" The Kambalda Parish is thriving and is an integral part of the Kambalda community. Thank you for representing Council this morning and please convey this appreciation to Council"
Cr Rathbone was very humbled by the warm and welcoming spirit of the parish and acknowledged the commitment of the local parishioners on their endeavours to ensure that the St John Vianney Church continued to remain a place of worship for the Catholic faith in the Kambalda community.
