There’s a fresh splash of white along Bayley Street in Coolgardie – and it’s more than just paint. It’s a visible sign of one local’s pride in the place she calls home.
Thanks to the ongoing efforts of Carolyn Freitag and the Coolgardie Progress Association (CPA) a much-loved stretch of traditional picket fencing along Bayley Street is being refreshed as part of ongoing improvements.
The CPA is a local not-for-profit initiative founded in 2025 by Coolgardie resident Rob Morton. Established with a vision to help advance the town, the association works alongside local government and provides a forum for all those engaged in the community to discuss best practice and explore ways to enhance Coolgardie's future.
The project, which began in September 2025, aims to enhance the town’s appearance and contribute to a welcoming environment for residents and visitors. Works have already been completed at Ben Prior Park and the RSL Garden, with efforts now continuing along Bayley Street.
Local volunteer Carolyn has been the driving force in delivering the project, dedicating her time to restoring the weathered timber fencing. Her work has seen older, worn sections transformed into clean, freshly painted panels that are already improving the streetscape.
While modest in scale, projects like this support the upkeep of key features that contribute to the town’s identity. The CPA continues to lead similar initiatives, demonstrating the impact of consistent volunteer effort and community involvement.
The CPA has been grateful for the generous support shown by the wider community. Bunnings has kindly donated paint for the project, and the local Men's Shed has rolled up its sleeves and pitched in — a true reflection of the community spirit that underpins everything the association stands for.
"There is still plenty of work to be done," said Natalie Ball, CPA secretary , "and we would love to see more locals come out and get involved. Every brush stroke makes a difference."
GET INVOLVED
The CPA is calling on all community members, young and old, to come down to Bayley Street, bring a paintbrush, and help beautify Coolgardie. No experience necessary — just enthusiasm and a willingness to contribute to something special.
