Newtown Dam (BP Dam)

The Shire of Coolgardie is currently assessing the state of the Newtown Dam (BP Dam), after it was reported a number of dead fish were found in the area. The dam will be closed to the public temporarily while the removal of the fish and assessment of the area takes place.

The current water levels at BP Dam are low due to a lack of heavy rainfall. The Shire anticipates this to be a natural event due to the lack of oxygen in the water as the water levels decrease, however water sampling will be completed to confirm this.

In the last 3 years, the Shire has not used water for their own purpose, nor has the Shire authorised anyone else to extract water from BP dam.
