Councillors Invest in Stronger Leadership Through Joint Training

There was a strong sense of collaboration and shared purpose in the room as our Councillors recently came together with fellow elected members from the Shire of Dundas for a joint professional development workshop.

Held in a dedicated training setting designed to encourage discussion and learning, the session provided an opportunity for Councillors to step away from their usual meeting schedules and focus on strengthening their governance knowledge and leadership skills. Guided by an experienced facilitator, participants engaged in presentations, group discussions and practical exercises aimed at enhancing decision-making, strategic thinking and understanding of their roles.

The workshop brought together Councillors from both local governments, creating a valuable space to share experiences, discuss challenges and learn from one another. By working alongside their regional counterparts, elected members were able to gain fresh perspectives while reinforcing a shared commitment to serving their communities effectively.

The training was held as part of ongoing professional development requirements and reflects Council’s dedication to maintaining high standards of transparency, accountability and good governance. Staying up to date with legislative responsibilities and best practice processes ensures Councillors are well equipped to make informed decisions on behalf of the community.

Importantly, the benefits of the session extend far beyond the training room. Strengthened governance knowledge, improved confidence in strategic planning and enhanced collaboration between neighbouring Councils all contribute to better outcomes for residents.
