At a Special Council Meeting on 8 April 2025 the Shire of Coolgardie Council approved new room rates for Kambalda’s Bluebush Village, aiming to make the facility more competitive and financially sustainable.
Following the successful refinancing of major loans, including those tied to Bluebush Village, the Shire has significantly reduced the facility’s operating costs. With the remaining loans set to be refinanced by 28 April 2025, Council seized the opportunity to review and adjust room rates to better reflect current market conditions reducing rates by $30 to $70 per night.
Council’s decision making has always been driven by a hopeful and aspirational vision for the community and this financial shift has allowed Council to reassess the break-even point for accommodation rates. This provided the opportunity to revise pricing to boost room occupancy and enhance Bluebush Village's competitiveness in the accommodation market.
Shire President Malcolm Cullen said, “we’re taking a proactive approach to ensure Bluebush Village fulfills its potential as a sustainable asset. By adjusting the rates, we’re encouraging higher occupancy and supporting our local economy, especially our mining and service sector.”
Consultations with existing and potential clients have shown positive support for the new pricing model. Increased occupancy is expected to follow as current contracts with other accommodation providers conclude and companies reassess their accommodation needs.
The revised Bluebush fees form a key part of the Shire’s broader financial recovery strategy, which is focused on improving cash flow and reducing liabilities. The new fees become effective 8 May 2025.

Council-endorsed room rate changes include:
- Single Village Room – Contract Rate: Reduced from $165 to $135 per night
- Single Village Room – Casual Rate: Reduced from $175 to $145 per night
- Executive Village Room: Reduced from $225 to $180 per night
- Executive Village Room (Two Persons): Reduced from $280 to $210 per night
