Aquatic Swim Teachers (AST)
Build confidence. Teach water safety. Help our community love swimming.
The Shire of Coolgardie would like to hear from enthusiastic Aquatic Swim Teachers interested in casual seasonal opportunities that may be available during the 2026/2027 pool season, commencing approx. October 2026. Swim Teachers deliver safe, engaging swimming and water safety lessons that build participant confidence, skills and enjoyment while supporting the Shire’s swim programs.

This is a rewarding, people-focused role where you will plan and deliver structured lessons for participants of varying ages and skill levels, maintain constant supervision and contribute to a safe, inclusive and positive aquatic environment.
You will have the opportunity to:
- Plan and deliver structured swimming and water safety lessons for participants of varying ages and skill levels.
- Maintain constant supervision and manage participant safety.
- Provide professional, friendly and consistent service to participants and families.
- Prepare, use, pack away and care for lesson and aquatic equipment.
- Provide guidance and feedback that builds confidence, swimming ability and water safety awareness.
- Identify and report hazards and follow aquatic safety, WHS, emergency and evacuation procedures.
Work in the Goldfields
The Shire of Coolgardie’s aquatic facilities (Coolgardie and Kambalda) are an important part of community life during the warmer months. These potential casual seasonal opportunities support safe, welcoming and well-run facilities for residents, families and visitors across the 2026/2027 pool season, commencing in October 2026.
Casual seasonal opportunities may be available at Shire of Coolgardie aquatic facilities. Flexible hours may include mornings, evenings and weekends as rostered. Classification/remuneration will depend on accreditation and experience and will be in accordance with the applicable industrial instrument/Shire salary schedule.
Who We’re Looking For
We are looking for energetic, encouraging and safety-focused teachers who can build positive relationships with participants, parents, patrons and colleagues. You will need to communicate clearly, manage classes confidently and provide constructive guidance and feedback while maintaining participant safety at all times.
Essential requirements include:
- Current AUSTSWIM Teacher of Swimming and Water Safety (TWS), or equivalent.
- Current Bronze or Pool Lifeguard Certificate (RLSSA).
- Current HLTAID011 Provide First Aid and HLTAID009 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
- Current Working with Children Check (WWC).
- Current C Class Driver’s Licence.
- Minimum age of 18 years.
- Physical fitness sufficient for instruction and activities in an aquatic environment.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including mornings, evenings and weekends.
The following will also be highly regarded:
- AUSTSWIM INF Teacher of Infant & Preschool Aquatics.
- AUSTSWIM TAI Access & Inclusion.
- TCSC Teacher of Competitive Strokes & Coaching.
