Shire of Coolgardie Code of Conduct for Council Members, Committee Members and Election Candidates

The State Government has previously announced its intention to legislate for new provisions regarding a Code of Conduct for Council Members, Committee Members and election candidates. To that end it proposed a Code.

The Shire of Coolgardie, along with many other local governments, and sector representative bodies made detailed submissions on aspects of the Government’s proposals.

The Minister for Local Government, Hon David Templeman Dip Tchg BEd MLA has announced that the proposed changes to the Local Government Act 1995 and Regulations regarding the Code of Conduct will take effect February 3 2021.

This means that the Shire of Coolgardie’s previously adopted Code of Conduct for Council Members and Committee Members is no longer in force but the Code becomes the Shire of Coolgardie’s Code of Conduct, with immediate effect.

The Council will consider a detailed report at the February meeting on implications and future actions in relation to this matter, including whether the Shire of Coolgardie will customise the Code of Conduct to reflect code provisions and any other matters specifically relevant to the Shire of Coolgardie.

It is proposed that all Council Members will receive training in the new Code of Conduct during February.
