Safer Internet Day 2023, celebrated its 20th year creating awareness, helping 180 countries and territories around the world, understand the risks and encourage safer online experiences. Over $16 million dollars was lost in WA alone in 2022, with a 7% increase from 2021, from scams.

Presented by Cr Tammee Keast from Data Divas, at the Kambalda Public Library, on Tuesday 7th of February, community members were invited to learn more about types of scams and viruses, looking first hand at examples that had led to such a drastic percentage increase in 2022 and ways we can keep ourselves protected being more mindful as users.

Residents, along with Cr Tracey Rathbone enjoyed the morning with a pen in hand taking notes on how to safely connect with a purpose and sharing their personal experiences with online hacking and scams they had been affected by and helpful tips on how to be more mindful of a recurrence.

Attendants happily shared morning tea  and spoke of the information they had learnt before saying goodbye to Cr Tammy Keast and requesting another session soon!
