Community Activities Return to Shire

With COVID-19 restrictions easing in Western Australia, an exciting program of events is being rolled out across the Shire of Coolgardie.

The start of Term 3 saw a number of sports activities recommence including mixed netball on Tuesday nights, Kids Sport on Wednesday afternoons for children aged 6-12 years as well as skate park afternoons.

For Mothers with young children, story-time has recommenced in the Kambalda Library every Thursday morning at 9:30am as well as Coolgardie Mothers Group every Monday morning at the Coolgardie Recreation Centre.

Centrecare are running craft sessions at the Coolgardie Community Recreation Centre every Tuesday from 10:30am – 12:30pm. Those based in Kambalda can join the Shire’s ‘Quirky Quilters’ workshops to sew and socialise every Thursday morning from 9:00am.

In Kambalda, the gymnasium facilities have returned to 24/7 opening hours and the Coolgardie Recreation Centre stadium re-opening is imminent.

“We are now working on the installation of the new stadium flooring at the Coolgardie Recreation Centre which will be finished in four weeks’ time. We are looking forward to being able to run events and activities in our Stadium once again and thank the community for their patience during this period of maintenance,” said Shire President, Malcolm Cullen.

“Centrecare’s recent afterschool pizza activity attracted over 49 children and their parents to the Coolgardie Community Recreation Facility. This is an outstanding result for the program - the Facility itself has recorded over 400 visits this week alone.”

On Monday 3 August, the Shire in conjunction with Barefoot Bands hosted a community barbecue to celebrate the launch of a recording studio and arts hub within the historic Coolgardie Train Station. The barbecue attracted a number of residents as well as visitors from Kalgoorlie who were eager to check out the new facility and try some of the equipment including a drum kit and piano.

“It’s great to see our community re-engaging with Shire events and coming together to socialise on a regular basis. Many of these events will continue to run until the end of the year, and we hope to continue to expand the program to deliver activities and events for all ages.”
