Friday night was the perfect night to wind up Reconciliation Week in Kambalda with Centrecare running a specialized Youth Night.
42 kids aged 6 all the way to 16 enjoyed activities such as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flags face painting, drumming, chalk art, basketball ending the night with a warm dinner.
They were also invited to write a special statement from the heart to add to the 5th Anniversary of Uluru Statement from the Heart Activity.
The party started about 4pm with some awesome chalk artwork being created in front of the Kambalda Community Recreation Facility (KCRF). Children took control and worked together to draw indigenous flags from not only Australia but New Zealand as well.
A drumming corner was also set up with the kids being encouraged to just give it a go.
Indigenous flags were on full display in the face painting section with the most requested flag being the Aboriginal one. Face painting gave the Centrecare team the perfect opportunity to chat one on one with everyone and ask about their thoughts and feelings on Reconciliation Week.
With so many kids onsite the KCRF Sports Hall was opened, and basketballs shared out for everyone to jam while dinner was cooking.
After a good two hours of activities dinner was ready! Kangaroo tail stew and damper was on the menu and the perfect way to wind the kids down.
The evening finished up about 7pm with the kids having had a great night and hopefully taking a moment to think about the importance of Reconciliation Week and why we have it.
