A talented Goldfields woman will make a very special homecoming next month as part of the official opening of the Kambalda Aquatic Centre.
Renowned dancer and entertainer Rebecca Borromei will showcase years of experience in a unique circus act for families attending the opening in Kambalda on Saturday, November 7.
Born and raised in Kalgoorlie-Boulder, Rebecca took up dancing at three years of age.
Her big break, however, occurred in 2014 when she was offered a job performing for internationally-acclaimed acrobatic act, Cameo Rascale.
Cameo Rascale is an acrobatic, comedy juggling act which has taken Rebecca to stages around the world on cruise liners, to hotels and resorts.
She excelled for six years.
But with the onset of COVID-19, the cruise ship industry was among the first to be impacted and Rebecca found herself unemployed
Rebecca and dance partner James Capener, who is also her fiancé, creating an all-new production specialising in circus entertainment for children at festivals and events.
Despite years of success abroad, Rebecca has never performed in front of her home fans in the Goldfields.
“To be able to entertain people all over the world after fairly humble beginnings in the Goldfields will be a dream come true,” Rebecca said.
For Shire of Coolgardie president Mal Cullen, securing an act of such acclaim was a genuine coup.
“It’s not every day that we are able to attract an act of this calibre to our Shire,” he said.
“This young lady has plied her trade all over the world for many years and to have her back home in the Goldfields will be an occasion to savour.”
James and Rebecca will be at the Kambalda Aquatic Facility Official Opening, stilt walking, juggling, and interacting with local kids via workshops.
The Borromei family name is synonymous in the Goldfields’ local business circles, as well as the family-owned market gardens in West Kalgoorlie that supplied the region with fresh fruit and vegetables for decades.
