Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea 2021

Published on Tuesday, 22 June 2021 at 2:01:13 PM

On Sunday, 23 May 2021 the Kambalda Community Resource Centre invited the community to the annual Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea. This year saw the centre hosting well over 70 community members for scrumptious treats and fun games with the aim to raise funds for Cancer Council. 2021 was no exception to bring yet another much loved community event to Kambalda. With the event gaining more popularity over the years and growing bigger each year, the annual fundraiser has raised an outstanding amount of $ 1,154.00 in funds with 100% of all donations going directly to Cancer Council making a difference in the life’s of anyone impacted by cancer. The Morning Tea had been moved to a weekend to allow more families to attend and mark the occasion.

The wonderful children’s activities set up and provided by Beverley Pack from Parenting Connection have helped make this event enjoyed by even our littlest attendees with kindness flowers, a DIY sweet cups and saucers activity, rocket crafts and STEM activity to choose from.

The Kambalda Community Resource Centre opened the event by announcing the three winners of the March Charge Fitness Challenge with 8 participants raising awareness and funds for 31 days by charging and exercising. The group of chargers recorded a total of 208 hours throughout the month with 1st placing - Irene, 2nd Allan  and 3rd Owen. Well done, you are all a true inspiration proving that age doesn’t stop you from achieving your goals.

With COVID 19 procedures still in place, the Bake Off Competition now in it's 3rd year, was judged by our experienced local seniors Mary Leister and Dorothy Tily-Laurie, prior to allowing attendees to have a taste of the home baked goods. The critical judges had to score each entrance by texture, appearance, originality, aroma and taste. Out of the 4 entries: standing out was 4 year old Patricks banana cake who had him receiving a prize to acknowledge his wonderful efforts despite not officially opening the Bake Off Competition to children for this year’s event.

Congratulations to:

Pauline for placing 1st with her Carrot & Walnut cake
Darita for placing 2nd with a beautiful Vanilla & Lemon Sponge cake
Bonny for placing 3rd with her Banana cake

With many opportunities to win one of the great prizes kindly donated by the Shire of Coolgardie and Kalgoorlie local businesses, many attendees purchased raffle tickets, tried their luck in the sweepstakes or placed a bid in the silent auction that morning. By far the most enjoyed were the cups and saucers and the word search game that had added quite some tension to the function room with everyone competing to be the first to find all 10 words, to come forward. Congratulations Jacinta & Peta. We hope you enjoy your prizes.

Special thanks go out to all our wonderful sponsors for supporting the event with Ray White Kambalda, Burnz Fitness & PT, Ice Cream Queen, Bouncy Fun Entertainment, Shelly's Creative Photography, Bunnings Kalgoorlie, Elements Hair Tribe and Café 312 donating towards our prize pool.

Well done Kambalda community and thank you for making this event such a success.
