Spinal Awareness Week

Past Event

Back and neck pain is recognised as one of the leading causes of disability globally. Research shows that neck pain is a leading cause of disability in adults (reported up to 20% of adults), with many presenting for assessment.  Neck pain is in the top five back problem hospitalisations in 2017-18.

Common causes of neck pain include:

  1. poor posture(the way your body is positioned when standing or sitting)
  2. sleeping in an awkward position
  3. tension
  4. injury such as a muscle strain or whiplash
  5. prolonged use of a desktop or laptop computer
  6. wear and tear in the bones of the neck, which is a normal part of ageing
