Burra Rocks
Originally known as Woodline Dam, it was constructed in the 1890's, for the purpose of supplying water to the locomotives which hauled timber for use in the mining industry.
It is now a popular BBQ, camping area and nature reserve with water available all year round. Located 55km south of Coolgardie.
Cave Hill Nature Reserve
Rock climbing is a popular pastime here and climbing spots are provided. The track into the reserve is not maintained on a regular basis, therefore care should be taken.
Mt Burgess
In the 1890s, a fire on the summit was frequently used as a guiding beacon at night. Named by explorer Henry Maxwell Lefroy in 1863.
Ora Banda
A historic gold mining town. Relax in comfort at the restored Ora Banda Inn. It offers accommodation and great BBQ lunches on weekends. Tel: (08) 9024 2059.
Yackatoon
A religious amphitheatre in the bush south of Bali Station, off Gibralter Road. Built by the Anglican Church of England Men’s Society. Yackatoon possibly means “camping place” in aboriginal dialect.
Larkinville Mine
The largest gold nugget ever discovered in W.A. was found here by 16 year old Jim Larcombe on January 15, 1931. Named the Golden Eagle it weighed in at a massive 1,135 ozs!
Kunanalling Hotel
Three prominent chimneys and the ruins of a hotel are the sole remains of this ghost town which had a population of 800 in 1898. It is approximately 32km north of Coolgardie.
Gnarlbine Rock / Hunts Well
Gnarlbine Rock is one of the few known watering points for the early prospectors. This water catchment area played an important part in the opening up of the Goldfields. Only 30km south of Coolgardie.
Victoria Rock
Victoria Rock is located 18km from Gnarlbine Rock, it is well known for its unusual sculptured shapes and granite rock. Also has an extensive bushland view from its summit. Picnic and campsite facilities available.
Wallaroo Rocks
Wallaroo Rocks features 3 dams with plenty of water most of the year and good scenic views while walking around the rock. The dams provided water for wood cutters and locomotives on the Kurrawang woodline during the early 1900's. Most of the wood cut was used as fuel in steam engines and gas turbines that provided power for the mines and towns.
Rowle's Lagoon Nature Reserve
Rowle's Lagoon Nature Reserve is situated approximately 65km north of Coolgardie and is a large fresh water lake. It is a unique bird watching area, catering for a range of activities including camping and picnicing. Gazetted water ski area. The old boiler in the lagoon was once used to pump water to the Carbine Mine.
