Snakes

The Shire of Coolgardie has no authority regarding the capture or killing of snakes. The following are contacts for the capture or identification of snakes:

Cats

The Shire of Coolgardie has no power relating to cats which are of domestic, stray or feral nature. The Shire of Coolgardie does not have any cat traps for hire, but does however support responsible pet ownership.

Dogs

It is important that all dogs, three months and over are registered

The Dog Act makes it compulsory to register all dogs that are three months and over. The registration period is from 1st November to the 31st October each year.

Concessions on registration costs are allowed for dogs that are sterilised. People holding Pensioner Concession Cards are also entitled to a reduction on the registration cost of their dog.

Council Dog Pounds are located at:

  • COOLGARDIE: Coolgardie Works Yard, Woodward Street, Coolgardie
  • KAMBALDA: Kambalda Works Depot, Santalum Street, Kambalda West

Impounded dogs may be collected after payment of pound fees at the Shire Office and only if the dog is registered. If the dog is not registered they will not be released from the pound until the registration fee has been paid.

All dog complaints should be lodged at the relevant Shire Office. A Complaint as to a Nuisance Created by a Dog form will need to be completed by the complainant and then the Shire Ranger will follow up the complaint. The Shire of Coolgardie supports responsible dog ownership.

Dog Exercise Area

The Shire of Coolgardie provides a Dog Exercise Area where dogs are allowed to be unleashed, but must be supervised at all times. Further information can be obtained from the Shire Offices.

After Hours

For emergency dog complaints, attacks and dangerous dogs please contact Kevin Caldwell on 0407 479 035. Officers will not normally attend after hours for issues relating to wandering or barking dogs.
